Artist don't take the genre serious either as developers expect too much from them. Countless would-be developers have lost interest or even left the entire genre due to a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, it has become one of the most crippling factors of the community. Honestly, this makes sense from a business standpoint and I don't blame the publisher for their stance. After all, if you don't own the software why would they want you using their graphics? So, keep in mind this was several generations ago, there became a sort of witch hunt of those standard graphics. The company, CoGen Media, obtained the rights to the RPG Maker series a long time ago and sided with the pirates. Truth is that a person who actually purchased the software has the right to use the graphics for any purpose including commercial use. ![]() ![]() ![]() Pirates are behind the very same dilemma much of the community has inherited. Thieves don't want others to know they stole something and therefore would find a way to hide their ill gotten goods. I have seen illegal copies of every version including MV. RPG Maker has a long history of being pirated.
